New forms of computer viruses are circulating every day , affecting thousands of computers. Many of them are spread via email . Amazon customers are the latest to be affected.
Security firm Panda Security has detected a fake email account that is pretending to be an email from Amazon's Marketplace team. Inside it is a type of malware called "ransomware ." Panda Security claims that the virus has already spread to thousands of computers around the world.
At first glance, this email may seem official. This is because it includes Amazon logos. Its subject, written in English, refers to the code of an invoice for a product recently purchased on the website of this e-commerce company. The number of this invoice is random and varies from one customer to another.
The email address listed therein is “[email protected]”. Inside the email is a supposed invoice accompanied by the following message: “Dear customer: We would like to take this opportunity to thank you for your purchase. Please find your invoice attached to this email. Kind regards, the Amazon Marketplace team.”
Panda Security has warned potential victims not to open the argentina phone number attached document . Failure to follow the security firm's recommendation will result in the activation of the malware known as Locky.
This malware works by deleting backup copies made on any computer running a Windows operating system. Locky then encrypts all files on the computer.
The aim of this computer virus is to obtain a monetary reward from hackers in exchange for decrypting the computer. To do this, cybercriminals only leave a file available on the computer with the instructions that must be followed.
In the event of similar cases in the future, Luis Corrons, director of PandaLabs at Panda Security, advises ignoring emails “that talk about invoices if no purchase has been made within a maximum period of two or three days.”
