Just like on other social channels, it is important to use (relevant) hashtags with your videos. Hashtags may be even more important on TikTok, as it can influence the algorithm and thus get you more attention for your content. Using the right hashtags on TikTok is crucial and can make the difference between 100 and 10,000 views.

What kind of hashtags should you think of? Most people tend to use #fyp or #foryoupage under every video . Previously (and still) these hashtags were used to (hopefully) be seen earlier on the For You Page, but they have become far too general and too often used. So use specific and relevant hashtags that really say something about your content.

When you type in a hashtag, you will see many other suggestions with how often that hashtag has been used. Has a hashtag been used 80 million times? Don't do it, your video will disappear like a needle in a haystack. Has a hashtag only been used 3 times? Then it is probably too niche. Try to find a middle ground or look at other users - who make the same kind of videos as you - which hashtags they use. Play around with it, experiment and find out what works best for you.
