✸ The town of Jackson itself is famous for its old west town feel, historic buildings, and wooden sidewalks. The atmosphere is cool, sporty, and laid-back. Jackson Town Square is a popular tourist attraction with its antler arches, built from elk antlers collected each year from the National Elk Refuge. On summer evenings, a stagecoach robbery and a mock gunfight are staged (Town Square Shootout from late May to early September, Monday through Saturday at 6 p.m.). The town is lively year-round.
✸ The Million Dollar Cowboy Bar is the city's must-see bar. The bar stools are topped with a saddle, where you can sit down to enjoy one of the many craft beers, served on a counter encrusted with dollar coins. Often crowded, frequented by locals and tourists, you can also learn a few country dance steps on Thursday nights. On other nights, rock, folk and country bands offer live music.
✸ Historical Society & Museum : Between Native American artifacts, firearms truemoney data from the fur trade era, and historical photographs, this museum offers some great discoveries and allows you to discover the history of this region.
✸ National Elk Refuge : Wintering ground for elk (same family as deer), this 100km2 reserve shelters between 7,000 and 9,000 animals from the parks and forests in winter. It is a privileged place for observing and photographing fauna and flora. In winter, 45-minute sled tours are offered and allow you to approach elk, bighorn sheep, bison, pronghorn (antelopes), and even wolves! At the end of spring, elk begin to migrate out of the Refuge to their summer territories.
