No innovative models please!

Post by asimd23 »

Young musicians like to send their creations to radio stations in the hope of being included in the program. A small DAB radio station, probably unknown to the majority, has now asked such bands via email for money so that one of their songs can be played on the station. 180 francs, and the song will be played on the program.

Various other broadcasters and experts immediately explained how wrong and evil this approach was. After all, the aim was to promote the Swiss music scene and not to rip it off. The vietnam rcs data radio operators soon claimed that it was a case of hacking, that the email was fake, and that they of course had no intention of charging money for broadcasting songs.

It's a shame, really. Because all the fuss is completely incomprehensible. Why shouldn't a private broadcaster introduce a payment model like this? Just because it hasn't been done before? The fact is: 99 percent of the committed, passionate and motivated young musicians in this country don't make it onto a radio station's playlist. There are simply too many of them. Just like unrecognized literary talent who can't find a publisher, many a gem has probably remained undiscovered because it didn't meet the taste of the music editor on duty. What the DAB broadcaster (apparently) had in mind was nothing other than a paid advert in a newspaper: for money, you get space to be able to speak your mind in the original language without being disturbed. And in the case of a band, you do this better in the form of a song than with a spoken word commercial.
