Without a digital distribution network as the basic infrastructure, the energy transition will hardly succeed. The digital association Bitkom warned of this in a statement on the Renewable Energy Sources Act (EEG) 2021. The EEG 2021 is to be approved by the cabinet this Wednesday. The 20-year remuneration for many subsidized photovoltaic systems such as photovoltaics is currently ending, but due to the still only rudimentary digital infrastructure in the distribution network, the costs of feeding the electricity into the grid are often higher than the income to be achieved.
"Renewable energies must now continue to switzerland gambling data develop under market conditions. Such a market can only be created with the help of digital technologies," says Bitkom energy expert Robert Spanheimer. Only with a truly digital distribution network could neighbors, for example, exchange electricity or charge their new electric car cheaply when the wind blows or the sun shines.
Bitkom is therefore pushing for an acceleration of the smart meter rollout, which began at the beginning of the year after a long delay. According to the law, the telecommunications connection for smart meters must be via fiber optic or mobile communications for security reasons , which is often not possible with the house connection. Therefore, the preparation of an installation location for smart meters must be included in the funding programs for building renovation and broadband connections.
Even in new buildings, a connection point for intelligent measuring systems must be planned. Spanheimer: "With the appropriate applications, every single customer can benefit from smart meters . But they are also a crucial part of a modern network infrastructure as the basis for the energy system of the future."
Digitalization must be a central component of the EEG amendment
