A DDoS is a type of denial of service attack where multiple systems are used to attack a single system, causing a denial of service (DoS). DDoS attacks are nothing new – according to Britannica, the first documented case dates back to the early 2000s. Unlike having your site hacked, these types of attacks usually don’t cause any damage to your site, but simply take it down for a few hours or days. What can you do to protect yourself? One of the best recommendations is to use a ebay database reputable third-party security service like Cloudflare or Sucuri. If you’re running a business, it makes sense to invest in their premium plans. If you’re hosted on Kinsta, you don’t have to worry about setting up DDoS protection yourself . All of our plans include free Cloudflare integration with built-in DDoS protection.
DDoS protection from Cloudflare and Sucuri
Their advanced DDoS protection can be used to mitigate DDoS attacks of all shapes and sizes, including those targeting UDP and ICMP protocols, as well as SYN/ACK, DNS amplification, and Layer 7 attacks. Other benefits include placing you behind a proxy server, which helps hide your source IP address, although it is not bulletproof. Be sure to check out our case study on how to stop a DDoS attack. We had a client with a small e-commerce site running Easy Digital Downloads that received over 5 million requests to a single page over a 7-day period . Normally, the site only generated 30-40MB per day of bandwidth and a couple hundred visitors per day. But out of the blue, the site instantly jumped to 15-19GB of data transfer per day! That’s a 4650% increase . And Google Analytics didn’t show any additional traffic. So that’s not good.
