This is one of the metrics where Moz really shines. Once we fix the flaw in the way we check Ahrefs, we can accurately determine whether our index is more or less like Google’s compared to our competitors. Since the start of tracking, Moz Link Explorer has never been anything but #1 . In fact, we’ve only had 3 relationships with Ahrefs and never bahrain number data to Majestic. We’ve customized our crawl to be as Google-like as possible, and it’s paying off. We ignore the types of URLs that Google hates, and find the URLs that Google loves. We believe this will pay huge dividends for our users in the long run as we build on our already high-quality, huge index.
Okay, so we’ve spent a lot of time looking at these individual metrics, so I think it’s probably worth putting them into an easy-to-understand context. Let’s pretend for a moment that this Link Index is the Olympics, and no matter how much you win or lose, it determines whether you get a gold, bronze, or silver medal. I’m writing this on Wednesday, April 25th. Let’s see how things would play out if the Olympics were held today:
As you can see, Moz takes gold in six of the nine metrics we measure, two silver, and one bronze. Additionally, we are adding and improving our index every day. As most of the graphs above show, we tend to improve compared to our competitors, so I expect our scores to be even better by the time of publication in a week. But the fact is that based on the metrics above, the quality, quantity, and speed of our link index is excellent. I wouldn’t say that our index is perfect. I don’t think that’s something that anyone can really know and depends a lot on the specific use case. But I can say this – it’s pretty good. In fact, Moz has won or tied for “gold” 27 out of the last 30 days .
