So we clearly see that intention is something that is both important and that transforms the meaning of the events in our lives. I will give you other examples. If you cannot eat for three days because you are lost in the forest, it will be much more difficult mentally, psychologically, than if you cannot eat for three days because you have decided to fast. A fast is when you say to yourself "I am not going to eat". So if you do a three-day fast, you have decided, you intended not to eat for three days.

And the event is the same. In both cases, you don't eat for three days. The only difference is the intention. In one case, you chose it, you had the intention; in the other case, you didn't, and that makes a big difference.

your car broke down and so you parked your car and unfortunately had to walk home, 20 kilometers, well that will be much more frustrating than going on a 20-kilometer hike in the forest with your friends. Again, it's exactly the same event, it's completely the same thing, but in one case, the 20 kilometers, you do them intentionally, you do it on purpose, you chose it, and in another case, you simply didn't choose it. So you understand the difference between something done intentionally and something done without intention. The same event will have completely different meanings.

So you see that intention is a very important element. And yet, we sometimes neglect it and live, as they say, on autopilot, that is to say without putting any intention into our life.
