Transport, a strategic sector for the global development of the economy

Transport, a strategic sector for the global development of the economyThe Coordinator of the University Expert in Land Transport at Bureau Veritas University Center , Nuria Fuente, dedicates this week's post to this sector and its impact on the global development of the economy, on the occasion of the inauguration this Thursday of the XXIX Edition of the training program.

Transport is a basic strategic sector for the global development of the economy , for various reasons, one of them and a very important one is that it guarantees the mobility of citizens, it also responds to the free circulation of goods and constitutes a basic tool to increase the productivity of the productive sectors.

Thus, the close correlation between economic-social development and mobility has also been demonstrated .

Because it is an expensive activity, it would seem that transport part time data should be avoided or reduced as much as possible; however, there is a relationship between investments in transport infrastructure and regional development, which indicates that this constitutes an important activity in a continuous process of expansion and modernization .

In recent years, transport has become increasingly important in industrialized countries , where it has become a basic activity from both an economic and social point of view.

One of the main functions of transport is to connect consumers and producers, promoting productive specialization and consumer access to an ever-increasing variety of higher-quality products.

In turn, from the point of view of society, the importance that leisure and the activities associated with it have in modern societies makes transport an essential activity for the normal development of human relations.

It is therefore a reality that transport has become a strategic industry for a globalised economy that demands greater facilities for the mobility of people and goods.

In general terms, the transport sector offers better service every day, and its future is marked by technological evolution .

As regards rail transport , it should be noted that in the middle of the last century, the railway was the predominant means of transport for both passengers and goods. Nowadays, that position has been taken over by road transport.

A number of initiatives can be highlighted to promote the transport of goods by rail :

Clearly separate responsibilities between the State and railway companies .
Manage railway infrastructure and operations as separate and independent units.
Allow the private sector to participate in certain activities.
Create rail freight freeways for the transport of goods.
Facilitate the concentration of loads and promote intermodal transport .
Road transport is the most important transport mode in the distribution of freight traffic and plays an irreplaceable role as the first and/or last link in transport chains using other modes.
