Every day, VTB PJSC receives information from clients about fraudulent calls from messengers, chat bots and the bank's contact center. The bank analyzes all the information together with the department and mobile operators to check and subsequently block such calls. Previously, the process could take several days.
The Russian Ministry of Digital Development, Communications and Mass Media explained that businesses help the agency combat fraud, but did not answer questions from a ComNews correspondent.
The success of combating italy whatsapp resource telephone fraud depends on the joint actions of law enforcement agencies, departments, banks and telecom operators. Blocking phishing resources in the .ru and .рф domain zones takes a maximum of several hours. Interaction with businesses helps us quickly respond to new threats and improve mechanisms for combating fraudsters," said Alexander Shoitov, Deputy Minister of Digital Development, Communications and Mass Media of the Russian Federation.
Deputy President and Chairman of the Management Board of VTB Anatoly Pechatnikov added that the success of the fight against fraudsters depends on a prompt response and high speed of blocking their numbers. "That is why we proposed to automate the process of transmitting data on such suspicious calls and implemented it jointly with the Ministry of Digital Development. Automation of collecting numbers and phishing links allowed us to speed up the blocking of intruders with the help of telecom operators three times and prevent up to 50% of potential attacks on VTB clients. As a result, their number has decreased by half. We plan to scale this technology for all players in the banking market in order to jointly provide protection to as many Russians as possible," said Anatoly Pechatnikov.
The Moscow prosecutor's office explained that over the past year and a half, more than 200 administrative cases have been opened against small mobile operators for violating the law on communications in the capital. "Thanks to the prompt measures of the prosecutor's response, we have managed to almost completely eliminate "spoof" calls to Moscow numbers. However, fraudsters contact bank clients via instant messengers, using the symbols of the organizations on whose behalf they allegedly act," added Lyudmila Nefedova, head of the press service of the Moscow prosecutor's office.
Independent expert of the IT and telecom market Vadim Plesskiy said that solutions for tracking such fraudulent calls are developed jointly by telecom operators and banks, and if the initiator of the call is in Russia, then the chain of the call is quite easy to trace. "As a result, blocking fraudulent calls in some cases is possible almost in real time. The regulator can issue telecom operators that provide services to such fraudsters an order to tighten control, and in the event of a repeat and lack of proper control, cancel the license. Companies that value their reputation and license will prefer to connect to the system to combat fraud. The solution was developed in Russia, but the cost of its development is difficult to estimate, but this is definitely less than the amount that bank clients can lose in the event of fraud," commented Vadim Plesskiy.
Valentin Makarov, President of the Russoft Software Developers Association, said that collecting a database of fraudulent calls allows IT specialists to identify patterns in such calls and the tactics of attackers. "This is precisely the necessary food for artificial intelligence (AI) tools, which allows it to identify new similar calls. The larger the database, the faster and more adequately the AI will be able to recognize a malicious call. AI solutions are multiplying like mushrooms after rain, but the winner is most likely the one with access to the most complete database. Therefore, VTB, which consciously collects information about such calls, becomes the leader. It would be great if the state, or VTB, provided access to this invaluable call database for all potential suppliers of the necessary solution by holding a competition among them. Competition could help find a higher-quality technical solution for AI faster," Valentin Makarov summed up.
"We support the work carried out by VTB Bank
