Safety Tales: The Over-Executive Assistant
Vladimir Bezmaly | 11.01.2017
Smartphones, tablets and other devices with voice assistants became widespread in the empire. Assistants plotted routes for cars, made small purchases, booked seats in restaurants, plane tickets, boat tickets, train tickets. Such technologies became an integral part of the lives of the empire's residents.
Everything was peaceful until a small incident occurred.
A virtual assistant A with voice control for the "smart" australia whatsapp data could make purchases on the A service itself. To call the assistant, it was enough to simply say "Alexa!" and then say what you wanted from it.
- Johann, we have a funny emergency.
— Judge for yourself. As you know, I use service A. And last night I had a little granddaughter visiting me. Hearing me ask the virtual assistant to increase the temperature in the apartment, she simply walked up to the device and said, “Alexa, I want a dollhouse and cookies,” and that was enough for the assistant to order, pay for, and arrange delivery of a large dollhouse and two kilograms of cookies to my home!
- Ha! I can imagine your surprise.
- Of course. I was simply speechless.
— And imagine if this news had hit TV. On the news, the announcer in a well-trained voice tells about this funny incident “... and then a little girl comes up and simply says into the microphone - Alexa, I want a dollhouse and cookies”, and all the devices connected to the A service, located near the viewers' TVs, in different parts of the empire, immediately order a dollhouse! Can you imagine?
- And what can you advise?
— I don’t know yet. We need to somehow authenticate the owner so that no one else can do something like that. Maybe introduce voice authentication.
But this is quite real. And what to do with it? I don’t know. And you?
