had the opportunity to learn English at school, of course, and I needed it in my work. When I started my career in the automotive industry, I was in an international group, I moved to Austria, so I had to learn German and I had to improve my English to speak with… I spoke with Americans, with Mexicans, with Chinese. I needed English for that. Same for German, I needed it on a daily basis, so in my professional life, also in my personal life because I lived in Austria. And as I was telling you, there are certain places where I simply needed German.
I learned Italian alone at home, I spent a year and a half, two years, I learned it from scratch myself thanks to my friend Alberto from Italiano Automatico, who does great things, who has a great community to learn Italian. And I did it because I was super interested in the language and I still love this language. It's, I think, my favorite language, I love Italian.
So, I actually miss those experiences. I stopped learning Italian because I didn't really have the opportunity to speak it, it was very, very complicated for me. And since I don't have time, I didn't want to continue to give priority. And we'll talk about it in the why, what are the reasons that push me not to learn new languages now.
There is a quote then which is spain whatsapp number data super well-known but which I like a lot, it sums up a lot of things, it is from the British philosopher of Austrian origin, Ludwig Josef Johann Wittgenstein or Wittgenstein rather, and he said:
And he's right. Speaking other languages broadens the boundaries of our language and therefore broadens our world, because when we speak foreign languages, it increases our understanding of others, it increases our general culture, because if you learn Italian for example, you are a little interested in Italian culture. I hope that you, in your learning of French, are interested in French culture. That's why cultural content is a super important part of the Authentic French Academy, for example.
So for me, it's really an extraordinary wealth to speak other languages and there's nothing like it, there's nothing better than expressing yourself to someone in their own language. So that's why I would like to learn another language and it would also allow me to put myself in the same position as you who are learning French and improving your French.
I also know that learning a new language would be great for my personal development, because learning a language helps improve your memory and you could say that I just turned 40, I turned 40 in November 2022, and there are times when I forget, I forget more than I should and I forget more than in the past. It's been going on for a few years now and I notice it. When I was still in my career in the automotive industry, I had good memories of numbers, projects, dates, so I really remembered the details.
And I feel like, as I get older, I remember things less, and that's why working on my memory by learning a new language would also be beneficial and it could also be a good example for my children, because they are also learning foreign languages, well it would be great to show them: "Well, kids, dad is also learning foreign languages". I can already show them an example, because they often hear me speaking English, they hear me speaking German in audios with friends. Italian is rarer, but it can happen that I tell them sentences in Italian. So it would be a good example for them, to show them that their dad speaks and is learning a new language.
“The boundaries of my language are the boundaries of my world.”
